These women rock

I finally treated myself to the last few pages of She got Up Off the Couch. This funky emotionally resonant mini-nostalgia-break took my thoughts to a place "previous, previous, previous" as Van Morrison says. Before laptops, technical problems, deadlines and decisions in general. Back to when life was about other things. My mom is here visiting and there are plenty of present and future things to be concerned with. Sigh. We've been busying ourselves all over town as well as getting things done around home.  I still have design and web work to keep up with, so I am kind of frazzled. (I frazzled myself getting the guest room ready before she even got here.)

Since I haven't had time to write any new posts here, I want to refer you to a couple of new friends on my side bar. If you have not visited Phyllis (sophie's press) and Ellen (theology from the margins) you are in for a treat. These women rock. They will make you think, challenge you not to think, encourage you to do something, and encourage you to just be. Get a dose of truth. Enjoy!

Boy meets history

It does my heart good to see my son on location. In the fall he and his wife and friends visited Rome. Now he's getting to see other historical places he's learned about only in books. He has loved history, archeology, paleontology, and all things ancient since he was very small. Now he is a grad student at Penn State on a month-long project in Turkey. The e-mails are few, but I caught the excitement in his voice through his tiredness:

I have gotten to see some incredible, incredible Roman sites. There are whole cities just sitting on the surface, with no one doing any archaeological research on them. I attached a photo of the theater from an amazing site called Kastabala, and me getting to know an Iron-Age sculpture of a lion at a place called Karatepe.

Have a great time Jeff!

--please pray for his health and safety (as a mom I think about that a lot!)

Starting over

It has taken me 10 years to decide to make the switch to a Mac from a PC. Now I have so much learning to do! As you can see from my very first slideshow created with my new mac, the switch has been made. I have spent any free time the last few days learning my way around. My brain is tired! Am open to lessons, helpful suggestions and input from those who are comfortable in macworld.

Even though I have previously been put off by the snobbishness of mac owners, I must admit it does seem to be superior in many ways and definitely speedier than my old laptop or PC!! It's the shift in my thinking and habits that is causing the frustration and slowing me down.

Looking forward to deciphering the command, control, and fn keys and actually getting work done. Pray for grace...
(quality of the video doesn't look so good after transferring it to blogger--any suggestions??)
